Colombian coffee is famous around the whole world, so why not visit coffee plantations? You can’t miss a chance to see how the coffee grows and how it is being processed till it gets to your cup. And Jardin is among the best locations for doing this!
Things to do and see in Jardin
It’s not a secrete that everybody is coming here for coffee. So the main attraction here is the coffee plantation but it’s not the only one. The city itself is very beautiful. Colorful buildings, a calm vibe, and local cafes with amazing coffee. The city is very small but you should spend a few hours here.
- Taste freshly brewed coffee in the central plaza.
- Check out the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
- Horse riding
- Visit a coffee plantation
It was our main goal for this trip and it excited expectations. Colombia is famous for its coffee plantations. You should plan a tour through a local company; if you require an English-speaking guide, it is best to do so in advance, though it can also be done on the spot.
Coffee Plantations
Jardin de Adventura are offering many options for horse riding, coffee tours, and hiking.
We scheduled a trip to Finca La Florida Jardín, and I wholeheartedly endorse it! This company offers a transfer there because the plantation is far away from the highlands.
We were greeted by the plantation’s owner, who walked us around. In essence, it is a little coffee roastery where coffee is grown, gathered, and produced until it is packed. We went to the plantation and gathered coffee on our own. Later he showed us how to clean it, dry it, and roast it. We went on our own to the plantation to collect coffee beans. He afterward demonstrated to us how to clean, dry, and roast it. Together, we went through this process, and we later relished the result. The host was incredibly welcoming and generous with his knowledge of how to make outstanding coffee. Finally, we made souvenir purchases and watched the sunset from his property, which has a fantastic view.
How to get to Jardin from Medellin
We rented a car in Medellin for 300k COP per day. Going by car is the most convenient way to get there as no good transport options are available. Jardin has situated 180km from Medellin, considering traffic and bad road conditions it takes approximately 3,5 hours to get there. Closer to Jardin you can enjoy the view of the green hills, we even stopped to make a few photos.
